MASTER COACH KESHAVA
Kaye felt unconfident, clumsy, and anxious growing up. He was largely sedentary throughout childhood and his teenage years, studied multimedia at university, and spent his time in front of screens, with little connection to his body and less to the outdoors. But the jungles of East Timor, the marshes of Iraq and the mountains of Afghanistan changed that. His time in the military as a lead scout, combat first aider and ultimately sniper team leader put him in wild places for months at a time and taught him how people hold up under pressure, how teams succeed or fail, and how much preparation and trust decide the outcome.
It also taught him something harder to unsee. Time in nature is not a luxury. It is part of what keeps people well. He came to believe that disconnection from our bodies and the living world affects the decisions we make, at every scale from the personal to the national. Being in good relationship with body, land and sea isn't optional; it's the infrastructure we require to thrive.
Kaye has put the same discipline and rigor that helped him and his teams perform in harsh environments towards health, restoration and the foundations of good decision-making and healthy societies.
He founded Restore Human in 2016. Ten years on, it has studios in Vancouver and Victoria, 16+ coaches from kinesiology, clinical exercise science and a dozen other academic and international backgrounds, a collaborative methodology refined over a decade, a coach university, and Explore Human, which takes the work out onto land and sea.
The why behind it is to restore and explore on land and sea. Kaye's own work now goes mostly into the things that let that purpose travel further than one coach ever could: developing coaches, building the method, and holding the culture.

DEFINING EXPLORATIONS
One of our first big Coach hit ups in the Hippokampos Big Canoe was paddling Vancouver to Cortes Island. Waves, sun, rain, lots of snacks, and 170km in a little over 3 days.
MOMAR 2025 with some of the Restore Human crew was one of my first ever competitions outside of the military. I placed 4th in the Men's solo Enduro category and put the Restore Human method to the test in another domain.
I had the privilege of taking a group of Restore Human Coaches up to the top of Mt Denman, a beautiful coastal mountain in Desolation Sound. We paddled there and back as well. Glorious!
Canoe camping with the family involves much smaller journeys that are even more rewarding than the big intense ones. The joy of seeing the growth and enjoyment of our two boys in nature is magic.
